Checking and Updating Tablet Settings
1. Accessing the Admin Settings
The Zippin Kiosk tablet has an Admin area where store managers can review and update settings that control the shopper experience.
To open Admin:
- Tap the gear icon in the top bar of the tablet.
- Enter the Admin password.
- Select the section you want to review from the navigation menu.
The Admin area contains six sections: API, Features, System, Brand, Logs, and Monitoring.
Important: Only make changes that are approved for your store. If you are unsure which setting to use, contact your Zippin support contact before making changes.
2. Managing Shopper Screens
Go to Admin → Features to check which screens are enabled on your kiosk.
The available screens are:
- Welcome: Displays the available check-in methods at the entrance.
- Receipt: Allows shoppers to enter an email address for a digital receipt.
- Loyalty: Allows shoppers to scan or manually enter a loyalty code.
- Checkout: Provides the configured checkout workflow.
- Feedback: A demonstration feature that should remain disabled in stores.
- Products: Allows shoppers to browse and search the product catalog.
Turning a screen on or off
- Open Admin → Features.
- Find the screen you want to change.
- Toggle its switch.
- Check the setting to confirm that the change was accepted.
Feature switches save automatically.
Things to know:
- At least one screen must remain enabled.
- Welcome cannot be enabled at the same time as Receipt, Loyalty, Checkout, or Feedback.
- Products can be enabled alongside Welcome.
- Feedback should remain disabled in stores.
- Some changes automatically turn off another screen to maintain the supported configuration.
Setting the default screen
The default screen is identified by a home icon.
When a shopper leaves another screen untouched for 30 seconds, the kiosk returns to the default screen.
To change the default screen, select the home icon on the screen you want to use as the default. The current default screen cannot be disabled until another screen is selected as the default.
3. Managing Check-In Methods
Check-in methods are available when the Welcome screen is enabled.
The available methods are:
- Tap Card
- Insert Card
- Scan QR Code
- Enter PIN
Enter PIN is disabled by default.
To review or change the available methods:
- Open Admin → Features.
- Locate the check-in method settings.
- Review the available options and update the relevant switches.
- Confirm that the changes were accepted.
Important: At least one check-in method must remain enabled while Welcome is active. The kiosk will not allow you to turn off the last remaining method.
If a change is refused, read the message displayed beside the setting.
4. Reviewing Gate Settings
The Welcome settings include two options that affect the entrance experience:
- Gate Open Duration: The number of seconds the gate remains open.
- Gate Open Message: The message displayed when access is authorized.
The gate open duration must match the gate configuration for your store.
If you believe either setting needs to change, confirm the correct value with your store's designated support contact before editing it.
When the kiosk receives an authorization event, it displays a green Authorized message with a countdown, or a red authorization-failed message if access is denied.
5. Managing Checkout Settings
Go to Admin → Features → Checkout to review the checkout configuration.
Choosing the checkout layout
There are two available layouts:
Work order
This is the default layout. Shoppers enter a work-order code by typing, scanning, or using voice input.
Transaction type
This layout allows shoppers to select a truck-stock option or a plant transfer.
Changing the layout affects the checkout experience. Only change it when the new layout has been approved for your store.
Updating the truck-stock label
When Transaction type is selected, a truck-stock label can be configured. The default label is Truck Stock.
A store may use a more specific label, such as Truck Stock - A141.
Use the exact label approved for your store. The configured label is used in the checkout information submitted by the kiosk.
Managing transfer locations
Transfer locations determine which plants appear when a shopper selects Plant Transfers.
When Transaction type is selected, you can:
- Add a plant location.
- Remove an existing location.
- Import a list of locations using a QR code.
To add a location, use Add a location and enter the approved plant name. You can also use the QR import option to load a list.
The kiosk rejects blank names and duplicate names, including names that differ only in capitalization. A plant name cannot match the truck-stock label.
If Plant Transfers is missing: Check whether transfer locations have been configured. If no locations are saved, the Plant Transfers option will not appear.
6. Updating Store Branding
Go to Admin → Brand to review the branding displayed on the kiosk.
The available settings are:
- Brand name
- Logo
- Brand colour
- Footer text
- Footer visibility
To update branding:
- Open Admin → Brand.
- Select the setting you need to change.
- Enter the approved value.
- Press Save.
- Check the preview or confirmation to verify the result.
If the logo does not load, check that the supplied logo address is correct and contact your support contact if the problem continues.
Brand changes take effect after you press Save.
7. Changing the Store Language
Go to Admin → System to review or change the store's default language.
The store language is applied whenever the kiosk app starts.
On supported tablets, shoppers can temporarily select their own language using the language picker. That selection returns to the store default after 30 seconds without activity, when Admin opens, or when the app restarts.
If the language picker is not available, the tablet's Android version may not support it. On older supported Android versions, the device language is used instead.
If the language keeps reverting, check the store's default language under Admin → System.
8. Reviewing the App Version and Kiosk Mode
Go to Admin → System to check the installed app version and kiosk mode.
- App version: Useful when reporting a problem to support.
- Kiosk Mode: Should remain enabled.
- Install the latest version: Opens the app download when an update is needed.
- Admin password: Allows the Admin password to be changed.
App updates can restart the tablet, so updates should be arranged outside trading hours.
Do not change kiosk mode or reinstall the app unless instructed by your designated support contact.
9. Checking Logs and Device Status
Reviewing changes in Logs
Go to Admin → Logs when you need to investigate a setting change or a kiosk issue.
The log records Admin sessions and the changes made during each session. You can use the available filter to narrow down the entries.
To investigate a change:
- Open Admin → Logs.
- Apply the relevant filter.
- Review the entries around
