Frequently asked questions
Q: Is something wrong if the credit card terminal read "cancelled"?
A: No, this is expected behavior. If you watch our CC terminals long enough, they’ll cancel their transaction and start a new one--they have to, because payment processors won’t allow transactions to sit open forever.
There's an oddity to how the turnstile system works wherein, instead of asking for payment at the end of a transaction like a standard POS, it instead opens an empty transaction and asks for payment constantly-that's why the terminal always says "Tap/Swipe/Insert" or some variation thereof. However, payment processors can't support an endlessly open transaction, so periodically the terminal will cancel the open transaction and start a new one. This happens roughly once per minute if no payment method is presented. If you are watching the terminal screen when this happens, you may see a Cancelled, Transaction Cancelled, or other similar message appear briefly and then the normal message should reappear.
